Ladi6 released her 3rd solo album ‘Automatic‘ back August and featured production by partner in crime Parks and detroit producer Wajeed, and featuresperformances from Ladi6 band members Julien Dyne and B.Haru. The album has guest vocal appearances by Scribe, Parks and Tyra Hammond, EL05 and esteemed Detroit MC Invincible.

One of the highlights from the album is the upbeat number ‘Diamonds‘, which has just received the remix treatment from emcee/producer Oddisee. Not only does he flip the beat into a half-time feel, he also contributes a verse to the track. Available as a free download via Ladi6 soundcloud page, check the link below.

Recorded Music NZ has announced the finalists for the 2014 Vodafone NZ Music Awards. Here’s a list of the artists & the categories that relate to Base FM. Check HERE for the full list. Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards ceremony at Auckland’s Vector Arena on November 20. This year the awards also coincide with the 25th anniversary of NZ On Air, a Platinum sponsor of the event. For the first time ever the show is being broadcast live on channel FOUR meaning music fans all over the country can watch all the action in real time from their living rooms, thanks to NZ On Air.

Written by Ladi6 and Parks, “Ikarus” was recorded at Studio A in Detroit, Michigan which was the recording home of legendary hip hop producer JDilla. The new music video for ‘Ikarus’ is directed by celebrated New Zealand artist and director Askew One and the single was mastered by Tom Coyne, who has earned acclaim for his previous work with Beyonce, Adele and D’Angelo.

The upcoming album is the follow up to the 2010 released ‘The Liberation Of…’, which was certified Gold in NZ and spawned the Platinum-selling Top 10 single ‘Like Water’. In 2011 Ladi6 picked up two New Zealand Music awards (Best Urban album and Best Female Artist), two Pacific Music Awards (Best Pacific Urban album and Best Female Artist) and ‘The Liberation Of..’ won the prestigious Taite Music Prize.

Ladi6’s upcoming third album is co-produced by Parks and Detroit native producer Waajeed. It will be released in June 2013.

With a second announcement still to come Northern Bass 15/16 is shaping up to cement its position as a must see fixture on NZ’s event calendar.

“Getting to see Shapeshifter perform on the Northern Bass main stage has been a long term goal of mine,” says festival director Gareth Popham. “We can’t wait to see how all of these artists make their mark on Northern Bass!” 

This year also sees Northern Bass move to a three-day festival format, with the addition of an extra night of entertainment and camping on the 29th December.

“The idea of adding the 29th came after we received requests came from a large portion of our audience to extend their Northern Bass experience” Popham continues.

The Jungle Stage will open from 2pm – 10pm, with a special selection of artists to create the perfect vibe before kicking off Movie Night in The Jungle.

And last but certainly not least, expect to see a focus on sustainability and environmental awareness at Northern Bass 15/16 as the event rolls out new initiatives aimed to combat the impact of waste, abandoned camping equipment and to encourage recycling and choosing reusable products.
